The ice cream sundae is a time-honoured staple of the traditional dessert menu. While no one quite knows where exactly it came from, most accounts agree that it was invented in the USA sometime in the 1890s and was served as a replacement for an ice cream soda, which was banned from being sold on the sabbath (hence the name ‘sundae’).

One of our favourite variants is the hot fudge sundae, which was supposedly first created in 1906 in Hollywood, CA. Served with hot fudge sauce, whipped cream and nuts, it goes perfectly with our chocolate and praline flavours!

PREP TIME: 15 MINS
MAKES: 2 SUNDAES (WITH EXTRA SAUCE)

Ingredients

HOT FUDGE SAUCE

120 ml coconut cream

50g dark chocolate

1 tsp vanilla extract

3 tbsp maple syrup

2 tbs dark cocoa powder

SUNDAE TOPPINGS

6 scoops vegan ice cream

8 Vegan brownie pieces

Caramelised hazelnuts

Vegan wafers

Vegan whipped cream

Method

1. Combine all of the Hot Fudge Sauce ingredients in a pan on a low heat, stirring constantly until the chocolate has melted and there are no more cocoa lumps. Set aside to cool.

2. Break brownies into small pieces and place them in the bottom of the glass.

3. Add a few scoops of ice cream and drizzle hot fudge sauce on top.

4. Repeat to make another layer, and top with more hot fudge sauce.

5. Top with vegan whipped cream and sprinkle with caramelised hazelnuts.
